DIALOGICAL SELF THEORY

Dialogical Self Theory, originally proposed by Hubert Hermans, Professor of Psychology, instigated a dynamic development both in psychology and in social sciences. It defines the self as a dynamic multiplicity of I-positions in the society of mind with the potential of dialogical reltionships. The theory is inspired by such figures as Mikhail Bakhtin, William James, and George-Herbert Mead, and it is applied in cultural, cognitive and social psychology, as well in education, counseling and psychotherapy. This new approach is closely related to narrative psychology, constructivism, and cultural psychology, but the focus is on the multi-voiced self. According to the concept of the dialogical self, the individual self is social in origin and dialogical in its potential. The self reflects and appropriates the voices of society and significant others, and within the functioning of the self we consider these voices in dialogue.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Abstracts are required to include a link with Dialogical Self Theory, as it is the central theme of the conference. All texts must be written in English as it is the official language of the conference. It is required that the submitted abstracts meet the international English language standard and the quality of English is checked. After acceptance, the abstracts will be published in the book of abstracts.

Abstract guidelines

The abstract for an individual paper presentation, workshop, poster or a topic group presentation should consist of a clear title, the name(s) of the author(s), their respective affiliation(s), and contact email address(es). To maintain succinctness, the abstract should not exceed 300 words. Moreover, it's crucial to incorporate six keywords that accurately reflect the content.

The symposium abstract should encompass the aforementioned details regarding the participants involved in the symposium. The abstract should include the names, affiliations, and email addresses of both the chair and discussant. In addition, the abstract should offer an overview of the symposium's main theme (max 300 words + 6 keywords). Following this, the individual abstracts of each symposium presentation should also be presented (max 300 words + 6 keywords). Please note that a symposium abstract should consist of 4 presentations. Each presentation will be followed by a discussion. Altogether, the symposium should not exceed the time limit of 90 minutes.

Colleagues who wish to submit their work are invited to create a linkage to the dialogical self as the main theme of the conference.
After the conference, an open access digital book (with ISBN) will be edited and published including all the contributions, except for the Workshops.

Please note that the poster stands for the poster sessions are 2.2 meters in height and 1 meter in width. We kindly ask you to keep these measurements in mind when preparing your poster.
